Creators of Albion Tea Co.
Hello! Thank you for stopping by! I wish we could sit down with you, hand you a cuppa and chat in person, but since we can't, this will have to do!
We are a husband-wife team living life in Colorado with two precocious young children. We had a dream (work for ourselves!), a mission (impact youth aging out of foster care!) and a passion (TEA!) so in January of 2017 we acted on all three and founded Albion Tea Co. Of course we couldn't resist giving it all a geeky twist by letting books and fandoms inspire our innovative blending.
We personally handcraft, package and ship every product you see here on our site. It is a labour of love and we hope you find as much enjoyment in your Albion goodness as we find in the creation of it!
Albion Tea: Behind the Scenes
Albion Tea Company came about because of chai tea. Yep. We both love chai but couldn't find a loose leaf chai that was organic and up to the taste standard we wanted after spending time overseas and experiencing amazing teas. Inspired to develop our own, we set to work and months later, produced our flagship tea, Rivendell Chai. But why keep a good thing to yourself, right? The rest is history. Well, history in the making. We founded Albion in January of 2017, and as of November 2017 have taken an exciting new turn with a focus on bookish tea lines and plans to expand business with a tiny home tea truck!
Albion is the ancient name for Great Britain, a country that has long been a source of fascination for us, and where we first became tea connoisseurs. Wales in particular holds a special place in our hearts after we visited in 2012...so much so that we planned to move there to work with an outdoor adventure youth program but the doors closed for that at the time. We are still working towards moving to the UK in the near future (read on for details!) so it only seemed natural to choose Albion as the name for our company. It is also worthy of mention that as avid readers, our name was partly inspired by one of our favourite books, The Song of Albion Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. If you haven't read it, you should...with a cup of tea in hand of course.
Every item we offer is a custom, artisan blend created in small batches here in beautiful Colorado. Our teas, spice blends and cocoas are truly handcrafted as we execute each step ourselves, from roasting spices and blending ingredients, to packaging and posting. We want to ensure that we are putting more than just a hot drink in your cup...we want it to be a work of art!
We are committed to an organic lifestyle personally and this carries over into our products as well. Each ingredient is carefully sourced to ensure it is truly organic, fresh, and of the highest quality. Please note that there are a few ingredients that are impossible to find in an organic form, but in these cases we strive to ensure that they are produced naturally, if not officially certified organic. Nearly all of our ingredients are also certified Fair Trade! We never use artificial colors, additives or flavors. The delicious tastes you will find here at Albion come from purely natural ingredients: teas, spices, and herbs.
We are a business on a mission. The heartbeat of our company is for youth aging out of the foster care system. This is a nearly forgotten demographic desperately in need of love and care. In the US, nearly 50% of aging out youth find themselves in prison within two years of aging out. This is not ok and we are determined to do something about it. We are using the platform of our business to begin building the framework of an outreach that will include providing employment here at Albion, mentoring, networking with the local community, and helping these youth not only find their feet in the world, but also their wings. Our goal is to establish both the business and the outreach aspects of Albion stateside, then move to Wales where our hearts have been for many years and establish Albion UK. But we aren't stopping there! We believe having a residential program will be ideal to really make a difference for aging out youth, so our long term vision is to plant (pun intended!) a lavender, tea, and honey farm with a tiny home village for the youth in our program to learn independence and responsibility on site while they are with us! Who knows, this could even grow to be many such farms around the world. Isn't that an exciting thought?! In order to reach the full potential of these lofty goals, we have partnered with World Horizons, an awesome global mission organization.
Would you like to get involved in our business as mission? Right now we are running a Go Fund Me campaign to sponsor our re-branding/restructuring, which will ignite exponential growth and give wings to our mission here at Albion.
